I found this site www.saxquest.com it seems like its a reliable site but I wanted to know if anyone has used this site or heard of it as being reliable. Thanks a lot.”

I do not think I personally have bought anything from them. That being said, I have heard of them. If you are going to purchase a horn, I would definitely call and talk with them. Another place to get horns is from Woodwind and Brasswind.

  1. Hi, I´m a sax aficionado from Madrid, Spain. I´m now playing with a Florida metal Otto Link mouthpiece which I purchased to saxquest. I have been buying mouthpieces in the last three years and never I had any problem. They are confiable people. Also i´m very happy with the Chenney-Link mouthpieces for my tenor and my soprano I bought to Saxquest. I think that if you like to play Jazz these mouthpieces are one of the best in the market.

  2. I’ve read in another forum that some people are not getting their emails answered by saxquest, but that might be a temporary thing. If you find that to be the case, try http://kesslermusic.com where Dave Kessler and his dad Chuck are known for their customer-oriented approach to business and offer a free trial period with full refund if your not satisfied with what you buy. There’s also http://vintagesax.com, http://worldwidesax.com, http://usahorn.com and http://saxforte.com for vintage and new saxes, but I’m not sure about their return/refund policies. Check them out.

  3. I purchased 2 vintage tenor mouthpieces and had great service. I also talked to Mark Overton and found him to be very professional and very helpful. I’d rather buy a horn that I can try in person and not buy over the web simply because, if you don’t like it, you’ll be paying shipping for horns you reject (including Woodwinds/Brasswinds). Good Luck!

  4. I just played to Selmer Reference 54 tenor. I didn’t notice one difference between my Yamaha 62 and the selmer. This doesn’t convince me that Selmer is actually better then Yamaha.

  5. Never tried the Reference series horns. Hear they are great. I have tried a Yamaha 62 about 10 years ago. I found it brighter than my Mark VI.

Of course, it all depends on you, how you play, what your setup is, etc.

  6. I live in Hawaii, so it is difficult for me to just get somewhere to try out horns. I needed a tenor, tried ebay, and didn’t like what was going on there. So, I perused the saxquest website, narrowed my choices to three. Then I called them to see if they really knew their stuff. They did. I chose a tenor. They had it to me in less than a week. It is a great horn. I highly recommend them.

  7. Hi Robflem-

We do answer emails as quickly as possible. We get about 50 emails a day plus phone calls and Jon, Adrianne, Chris, Duncan, Elke or myself try to answer all inquiries as promptly as possible. We get questions ranging from equipment issues to playing issuses to education related concerns. We’re all players here. My wife, Elke teaches at one of the local universities, I’m an active player in the St. Louis jazz scene, Jon and Adrianne are both classical saxophonists and Chris and Duncan both have advanced degrees in jazz saxophone performance and do repair. If anyone has immediate concerns we’re always available by phone from 9AM-6PM and many times we’re here during off hours too. We always answer the phone if we’re in the shop. If you don’t recieve an email response immediately, please be don’t be offended. We almost always get to email within 24 hours.

I’ve also incorporated many “free” amenities within the Saxquest web site to help saxophonists get information and get in touch with each other. For example, there’s a “free trading” section where people can take advantage of the high volume of traffic that the Saxquest site gets to sell their own stuff too as well as many other “non-Saxquest sales” related features. The spirit of the Saxquest web site is to spur a community of saxophonists and enable them to help each other. Although, we’re also always willing to help too. But, please give us time to get to your emails. We definitely all work very hard to keep our customers and registered web site users happy!!
