I came across this website/project, Bopland.org its a database of Jazz licks. It has some potential. Couple of things I would LIKE it to do are:
- User uploadable patterns, that are tagged with whom uploaded them
- User comments on the lick
- Ability to upload Music XML files to it.
- Ability to generate a “print page”
- Ability for a user (registered) to favorite licks
- Ability to generate favorite licks or selected licks in various keys easily (so if there is a lick in C major, and I want to see the same lick in 5 other keys, I can get it to do it)
It’s a cool project. Needs some additional features, but I like it. Check it out.
I came across German Saxophonist Norbert Stein’s website today.
He has a TON of stuff up there for FREE. A comprehensive saxophone workbook (more like a book for free), compositions, CDs for sales (of course) and more.
Highly recommended. Check it out. He’s getting a place on my “sites” links.
iTunes is a great thing….not only for managing music, but for finding and getting Podcasts. Here are some of my picks.
These are the “Jazz” ones I have subscribed to. Anyone have any others they’d recommend?

Seventh String software, which makes the excellent Transcribe software, has released two free programs (java applications). A Metronome and a Tuner. Nifty!
