Louis Armstrong’s Trumpet Used As A Fruitbowl?

Posted on November 17, 2007November 17, 2007 By ericdano 6 Comments on Louis Armstrong’s Trumpet Used As A Fruitbowl?

I don’t know about you, but this is disturbing:

Matt Mullenweg, lead developer of the open-source WordPress blogging software, last night celebrated a $25 million “bonus” from investors by purchasing a $1 million Louis Armstrong trumpet, which he plans to use as a fruit bowl.

There are a lot of things a trumpet used by Louis Armstrong could be used for. A Fruit bowl is not on my list. In fact, why not donate the money to some worthy foundation? Or maybe set up a scholarship program in the bay area for music? There are a lot of things you could do instead of buying a historic instrument and using it for a fruit bowl. Seriously. And $7 million for a house? Hope the tech bubble does not burst again….

Didn’t this website used to be powered by slashcode? I used to come here all the time when I was seriously studying music at HSPVA, and I still have printouts of all your PDFs.

Very cool that you’re using WordPress now.

    P.S. That article was a spoof/parody. I’m a woodwind guy, anyway.

Um, hard to tell if it was a parody when it ended up on Digg the other day. But, whatever………

Yes, I used to run Slashcode. I changed a couple of months ago. Basically, Slashcode seems to have become stagnet. Plus, you need to have a lot of Perl skills to do anything to it, and modifying it is a pain in the a##. Slashcode’s Blob/File thing worked, sorta. At the time, it was the best thing out there (1999). So, yeah……I got it up an running.

The only thing I kinda miss are the threaded comments, but, I can live without them I suppose. The only thing that hasn’t been transferred over is the player database. I suppose I’ll have to make something to do that. PHP is a lot easier than Perl.

Well if it was on Digg… 🙂

I see you’re already using Akismet, two other good ones are Easy Gravatar and the WP.com stats plugin.

I read from a CNN news article that Louie’s trumpet was being held in a time capsule – burried in 2000 by the Clinton administration to be unearthed in 100 years. I was searching for the brand of trumpet he used. I thought I saw that he had a pinky slide ring for his 3rd-valve-slide and wondered whether it was true. I’ve never seen a slide ring on the bottom of the slide before.

Hmm, I dunno. I would assume that he had more than one trumpet over the course of his life.
