Ed Joffee has a great article in the Associated Musicians of Greater New York website about the history of woodwind doubling. Multi-tasking has become a staple of modern living and is certainly a requirement for surviving in today’s music industry. The contemporary saxophone doubler represents the greatest example of this characteristic in music. While most…

Roland has introduced a new Digital Wind Instrument. Awesome! All the saxophone sounds you need in one instrument Nothing beats the sound of your favorite acoustic sax, but sometimes its tone might not be quite right for the job at hand. Seems Phil Woods is retiring: Well, it was indeed historic but for an unforseen reason: Before his last number, Mr. Woods, best known to the casual music listener as the soloist on Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are,” announced that it would be his last number. Ever. Sad day.
I mentioned this before on the site, but Derek Brown’s Beatbox Sax Youtube Channel is a goldmine for awesome saxophone related things. For example, the lesson about Growling was great. Keep up the work man!
