II-V-I Patterns

Posted on April 1, 2006April 18, 2014 By ericdano 14 Comments on II-V-I Patterns

I have updated the II-V-I patterns yet again. I consolidated some of the other patterns I had (like the Ray Brown ones). There are now 286 pages (or 286 4 bar patterns in all keys) to enjoy. Also gone is the Jazz Font. I am in favor of a more clean, professional look using Bill Duncan’s Fonts for Finale for this going forward.

Nope. And that font, NorMusic, looks like crap. And the website for it doesn’t work either.

You need Adobe Acrobat Reader. Most likely the latest version. Sometimes web browsers will not render the file correctly. In that case, save it to disk then open them.

You don’t need to have anything other than Acrobat Reader installed.

You know that I am the designer of the NorMusic Fonts? & without any respect you said they are like a crap? Why I was kind with you? I would offer you a copy of my NorMusic Fonts…It’s a shame to have Mr Ericdano juge my hardwork of 2 years the way he likes. Ericdano, next time, when you have nothing good to say, just do not say anything.

Oh, ok. So, if it looks bad, I’m supposed to say nothing. Yeah. That makes sense.

At least you have a website that works now. When I orignally posted the comment, back in April, the site didn’t work.

Looking at the example, it’s hard to read. Things are running into other things on the page.

So, on further reflection, I still think it looks like crap. Sorry you spent two years on it, but that is what I think of it.

I am ready to really do an intensive study of II-V-I patterns. I am fairly fluent in basic chords, but often find I need a better route through the changes. The choices posted by Eric are great, but is there a logical progression? Has anyone developed a systematic approach to the patterns that involves an order or do you just start at the beginning? I am thinking I’ll just play through them until I find ones I like and then learn that pattern in 12 keys.

Once upon a time there was some sort of order to the patterns, but as it has grown, it is more of a repository now.

I’d say you should pick a few and work on them.

    Hello Eric,

thank you very much for those exercices, I’m a guitarist so I guess those lines should get me away from my fingering habits 😉

    All the best
