Jazz-Sax, all things Jazz and Sax
I think I have seen the best case ever. And David Freeman has a modified one for EWI. Awesome. I’d love to have a one of these that fit Alto, flute, piccolo, clarinet, curved soprano, and oboe. Or one that was just for curved soprano, flute, piccolo, clarinet and oboe. It would be great if…
Sorry guys and gals, but the site might be a little slow for the next few days? Why? Well, Crashplan has a amazing sale this weekend. A whole year of the Family version of it for $17. Well, it started off free supposedly, but then it was going up in price every two hours and…

Yes, there is/was a Forum on jazz-sax. Well, whatever was there is now been replaced. Why? I was using something called Simple:Press for WordPress. However, they are now a paid thing (they had been free for a long time) if you want the plugins and stuff. Plus, I never really liked how it worked and…
Once Upon A Time…..there was a great site called EWI-EVI.com. There was a wealth of information on wind controllers and stuff. That site now seems dead. In fact, there seems little movement right now in the whole EWI sphere. Akai seems to have stopped with the software updates (not that it needs it) but things…
Last fall, I built a Hackintosh. “But why….Apple makes computers that are cheap right?” you say. Yes, they do. I was using a 2006 iMac for recording and driving two monitors for teaching (the other monitor is used to display music, smart music, etc). But, it had gotten slow. Real slow. I upgraded the drive,…

I’ve been doing a project for several years now…..converting paper material to digital. I wrote about this a while ago, and the process still holds true for me. Since getting an iPad, and also since basically converting my teaching studio to being centered around electronic display. So, in the process of going all “Digital”, you…

This week has been amazing. First, on Wednesday, we had Apple announce the iPhone 5. On Friday, PG Music unleashed Band in a Box 2012.5 for Mac. I shudder to think what next week will bring (other than actually receiving an iPhone 5 on Friday!). Like the iPhone 5, Band in a Box 2012.5 is…
The latest from Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen. I might have to tweak it…..haven’t played it through on sax yet….
I think this is a REAL product coming from Bari Woodwinds. Um…..interesting I guess….though why you’d want this…..I have no clue.
I found this flattened saxophone on Ebay, and bought it and mounted it in the hall outside of my studio. It is pretty cool. Best $36 I’ve spent in a while! Here is how it was most likely made.
For various reasons, I decided NOT to upgrade my ProTools to the new version. I won a system in 2007 that included a copy of ProTools M-Powered version 7. I upgraded to 8 as well, and mixed a big band album with the gear. I thought about moving to 9, but the upgrade costs were…
One of my fav compressors for saxophone. History of UA’s 1176 Compressor: That same year, Bill Putnam is making the transition from the old standard vacuum tubes to new solid-state technology with his Universal Audio-brand preamps and compressors. The legendary engineer and equipment manufacturer had previously redesigned his original 108 tube microphone preamp (taken from…
I recently reviewed version 2011.5 of Band in a Box. Partly because I had to upgrade in order to participate in the Beta for 2012. Now that Band in a Box 2012 is out, lets look at what it offers and what issues it still has to fix. Off the bat, you get more RealTracks…
Marcel Mule is one of the masters of the saxophone. In this video, you can hear him talk a little about Jazz. Interesting stuff.
Years ago, in 2006 I bought a Infrant ReadyNAS NV. The thing has been ROCK SOLID in storing my 2.8 terabytes of archives, music, pdfs, backups. Everything. Love it. Though it is getting long in the tooth. It’s 360mhz processor, lack of software updates, support for just 2 Terrabyte drives, Ext3 filesystem, lack of software…
