Jazz-Sax, all things Jazz and Sax
There are a lot of accessories out for the iPad that a musician can use. Two that have caught my attention. The Digitech iPB-10 which slashgear had a review of This week the the DigiTech iPB-10 has been revealed, a digital pedalboard which will allow your iPad to play host to several music pedals at…
Some interesting things. I think the biggest accomplishment is making it accessible, easy, and legal. Accessible in that you can now find all sorts of music in iTunes. And sample them. And buy them easily and legally. And he (and Apple) also made music accessible by bundling GarageBand with Macs……for free. GarageBand is a great…

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t…
Let’s face it, the economy sucks. And it’s not going to get better anytime soon regardless of what the idiots in DC promise. How does a musician survive then? Musician Wages.com has an excellent article with some pointers. My own pointers would be NOT to put all your eggs in one basket. Don’t “just” play…
Ok, you guys can thank leftyviv (
So I get the Jamey Aebersold jazzbooks emails. In their latest “Economic Stimulus Sale!” one, at the bottom something got my interest. Elevation Software play-along offer. Hmm…sounded interesting. So I decided to go to the site, www.superscopetechnologies.com and check it out. Downloaded the demo for Mac…..and then the disappointment happened. $149 for this piece of…
Dear Jazz-Saxists, Greetings~ Not long ago, I began to write some casual posts relating to Jazz improvisation ideas and approaches, about Coltrane Changes, John Coltrane, and some off-the-cuff ramblings in my little site at www.jkchang.com. These posts, collected in the “Dialogue” series, were really fun to write (and I hope they are also fun to…

There have been some discussions regarding the appropriateness of the inscribed saxophone in Parker’s gravestone (some claimed…

Last Friday Night by Katy Perry……Saxophone solo isn’t really right yet. Will fix it at some point.
Found this interesting. “Custom-made high-quality saxophone necks, made of top quality carbon fiber and water-resistant epoxy resin coated with ultraviolet-light-resistant polyurethane, are designed by musician/engineer Antoine Lefebvre and Zen Composites. For any wind instrument, composite materials may replace copper to produce stiffer, lighter and shock resistant bodies, which may be particularly attractive for large brass…
Ok, you’ve seen that stupid SexySaxmanSaxogram video right? This is the song that has that opening lick in it. Not a bad song at all, just some idiots decided to be obnoxious and video them playing it where people don’t want it played.
Rueters is reporting that long time Bruce Springsteen saxophonist Clarence Clemons has died. “Clarence Clemons, the saxophone player in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, died on Saturday, according to media reports, almost a week after he had a stroke at his Florida home. He was 69.”
This is a long weekend here in the States. I’ll be having 3 Sheets of the week to celebrate. The first up is California Gurls by Katy Perry. The rap section is tacet as…..well…..it’s rap. Doesn’t come out too good on a saxophone…..unless you like lots of repeating notes.
